This season saw Copenhagen International Fashion Fair, otherwise known as CIFF welcome 1,400 brands to its latest edition, held at the Bella Center in Copenhagen. From August 10 to 12, exhibitors have been busy presenting their Spring/Summer 2017 collections to a steady stream of buyers, visitors and press, highlighting the fashion trade event importance as the biggest and most traditional trade fair in Copenhagen.

CIFF spokesperson Mads Møller was very positive about this season's edition halfway through the three day event, mainly due to the fact that the halls in the center were consistently filled. He also mentioned the flow of "continuous positive energy and responses" felt throughout the day. The trade fair organizers succeeded in creating a clear segmentation of the brands shown and developing a good balance between the young progressive labels and more commercial brands. "We try and offer each brand a suitable space where they feel at home," adds Møller.

CIFF welcomes new platform, Raven

After the organizers moved the entrance to the exhibition space last season, first impressions of CIFF have been largely dominated by what is perhaps the most ambitious project of the trade fair. Visitors were welcomes in a space, which was filled in part with a installation by designer Maja Weiss, from the fashion collaborative Vetements and a stand from Beams, a concept store in Tokyo which presented select Japanese labels. In addition this season also saw the launch of new platform, namely Raven. The newly debut segment showcased a series of commercial and progressive menswear labels, including Danish brand Tonsure, which was recently named the finalist for the European Woolmark Prize men's category.

Authentic: models make way for Danish teens

For the first time ever, the women's wear segement in the Crystal Hall was taken under the wing of British fashion expert and curator Lulu Kennedy. Kennedy had been asked to curate the Crystal Hall as well as special projects inside Raven as well as the looks presented during live events. The models which showcased the outfits had been scouted on location the day before in a shopping center in Copenhagen to add to the authentic feel.

Up and coming: Space for you designers

CIFF also paid thought to the up and coming generation of new designers this season. The section 'Future of Fashion', recent graduates from selected fashion schools were offered the chance to showcase their designs to visitors.

Major Danish brands show at CIFF

Despite all the innovations introduced this season at CIFF, the largest show space is still reserved for the more commercial and high street orientated brands under the name "Future Classics." Danish fashion company DK certainly made good use of the the space and in a large stand presented its comprehensive brand portfolio.
