2015 CFDA Fashion Awards nominees announced

The Council of Fashion Designers America has announced the nominees for its 2015 Fashion Awards, which will take place at the Alice Tully Hall in New York on June 1.

This year will see Joseph Altuzarra for Altuzarra, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough for Proenza Schouler and Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen for The Row battling it out for Womenswear Designer of the Year, while the Menswear Designer of the Year category will see Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne for Public School, David Neville and Marcus Wainwright for Rag & Bone, Thom Browne, Tim Coppens and Tom Ford vying for the accolade.

The Olsen twins for The Row and Proenza Schouler designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez received their second nominations for Accessory Designer of the Year, up against Alexander Wang, Irene Neuwirth, and Tabitha Simmons.

The event also feature a number of Swarovski Awards for emerging talent, with the crystal company giving financial support to the winners, Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne for Public School, Rosie Assoulin and Ryan Roche are nominated in the womenswear category, while Shayne Oliver for Hood by Air, Alex Orley, Matthew Orley and Samantha Orley for Orley and Ariel and Shimon Ovadia for Ovadia & Sons are nominated for the menswear award. For accessory design, the nominees are Paul Andrew, Eva Zuckerman for Eva Fehren and Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel for Mansur Gavriel.

There are also a number of special accolades - Betsey Johnson will receive the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, following in the footsteps of Tom Ford, Vera Wang and Tommy Hilfiger.

The Founder’s Award in honour of Eleanor Lambert will be presented to Millard “Mickey” Drexler, chief executive officer and chairman of the board of J.Crew Group, Inc., while the International Award will be collected by Valentino creative directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo.

The final award, the Media Award in honour of Eugenia Sheppard will go to Instagram, marking the first time it has been given to a company and not an individual, previous winners have included Tim Blanks, Scott Schuman and Garance Dore, and Hilary Alexander.

Nominations for each award category were submitted by the CFDA Fashion Awards Guild, made up of the 450+ members of the CFDA, along with top fashion retailers, journalists, and stylists.
