From the 11th to the 17th of April, Amsterdam will be taken over by the global denim community for the third annual Amsterdam Denim Days. Denim Days attracts thousands of denim lovers from all over the globe: from brands and makers to enthusiasts and addicts, all united by a love of indigo.

It’s an annual event that enables a chance for blue jean enthusiasts to join together in a series of events within the city. To share their passion, talk about innovation, education and sustainability and to honor all things indigo.

MAIN EVENT BLUEPRINT

This two day denim happening, is scheduled to be held at the Westergasterrein on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 April (held in the Zuiveringshal, Machinegebouw and outdoor sites). See, Do & Enjoy denim in all its facets!

LABELS & MORE - ZUIVERINGSHAL

Amsterdam premium denim label, Denham the Jeanmaker, will mount a special exhibition and live indigo-art demonstration during Denim Days on Saturday April 16th. Denham and Candiani will invite you to step into their atelier where Denham’s SS16 House Guest Artist Juan Manuel Gomez and Laura Montoya will be working together on a work of art comprising of eight Denham x Candiani golden rivet denims.

Scotch & Soda Amsterdams Blauw will present their ‘Blauw on Wheels’ truck this year. Inside their beautiful travelling installation the brand gets to the heart of denim and explores their obsession with the indigo world.

Riders on the Storm; Lee® 101 celebrates the iconic Lee Rider jacket with four perfectly rendered limited edition pieces, handworked with embroidery. The iconic brand will be presenting on the spot live embroidery taking place throughout the event and will display the limited edition pieces alongside stories of the Lee Rider.

The Vintage Showroom has created from their extensive denim collection, a tribute to the Dustbowl era photography of Dorothea Lange for the Blueprint show. Capturing the harsh realities of 1930's America in beautiful aged denim and broken indigo pieces from their collection. A must see for all denim enthusiasts and aficionados"

For the ultimate in bespoke denim, the students of the local Jean School will be presenting three classic and celebrated Denim items available to buy which you can customize to your own needs. How fun is that?

Presenting a modern take on traditional tailoring, The Woolmark Company is joining forces with Dutch suit manufacturer The Makers and premium Italian weaver Berto to showcase a series of contemporary Wool Denim suits. The collection, titled 3x8, highlights three moments during the 24 hours of a day where these suits can be worn, and can be ordered on a made-to-measure basis at The Woolmark Company’s concept space at this year’s show.

International Woolmark Prize menswear finalist Jonathan Christopher, from the Netherlands, will showcase his capsule collection at Amsterdam Denim Days. Together with ITV Denim, Jonathan Christopher created a machine washable Wool Denim fabric that retains the natural denim look on the outside whilst resembling a soft Merino wool blanket on the inside.

Move, Run, Jump, Stretch with the Dynamic stretch jeans of established denim label Hilfiger Denim. Together with renowned Calvin Klein Jeans that will showcase their White Series Limited Edition at the event.

Renowned US supplier Cone Denim, Chinese Advance Denim, Turkish mill Bossa and the Italian Tonello well known for its garment finishing technology will also be celebrating with us.

Be careful don’t turn blue! In the Indigo lab you can find a variety of different dying techniques all in the colour of Indigo. Check out the crafts and skills of Textiel Fabrique, and Heartwear. The team of Blue de Cocagne will demonstrate the indigo dyeing processes and will tell you everything about their innovative artisanal techniques.

OUTSIDE AREA - BLUE LIGHT DISTRICT

Outside the Zuiveringshal you can find a little village of containers where you can enjoy some acoustic music, play along with the arcades of the Ton Ton Club whilst you watch local Amsterdam Sign Painters on site, transforming a container from the inside. Have a good beer from Amsterdam Beer Brewery Troost and don’t forget to pass by the American Food truck of Smokey Goodness what was made possible by Rösle. Fancy some Rodeo action? Ride the Electric Bull.

BIGGER & BETTER DENIM MARKET - MACHINE GEBOUW

At the Machine Gebouw you can find the even bigger and better Denim Market, where you can buy vintage and new denim items, cool gadgets and accessories and stock up on the latest designs from Black Rabbit, Deadstock Resurrection, Piero Turk, Indigo People, Giova Brusa, Butcher of Blue and many more.

There will be more shopping opportunities inside, at the HTNK Curated Denim Store, which offers a large number of cutting-edge and on-trend emerging brands.

Hacked by van Slobbe van Benthum will join hands with Kings of Indigo to create a live customization project, exploring the theme of re-using existing garments to aid sustainability. Hacked will be taking garments from K.O.I’s range and reconstructing, painting and embroidering live at the show, creating unique pieces to be both launched and sold at Blueprint.

The American Book Center pop-up shop will be selling a range of lifestyle books devoted to denim. Exclusive imagery from a new still to published book on denim Blue Blooded, Denim & Denim Culture will be displayed which you can exclusively find at the ABC store.

TALKS AT THE KETELHUIS

A number of inspirational talks and presentations are scheduled for Friday and Saturday in the Ketelhuis. Pop in to learn, get inspired and hear denim stories from industry experts, including:

James Veenhoff co-founder Denim City and Jeanschool, who will talk about Post Consumer Recycling and Red Light Deni.

Amy Leverton, denim consultant and author of Denim Dudes will present her most inspirational Denim Dudes and Dudettes as well as her new video series, Denim Shorts.

Liam Maher, head designer of Denham will talks about the movie as an inspirational source for designers.

Tomas Stege Bojer - Founder & Editor in Chief Denimhunters will talk about his new still to be published book Blue Blooded, Denim & Denim Culture.

CITY CENTER PROGRAMME – DOWNTOWN AMSTERDAM

For a full week the whole city of Amsterdam turns blue! Cycle or walk the indigo route to explore the spaces and stores this unique city has to offer. Visit the Nine Streets and Kalverstraat and find stores such as Tenue de Nîmes, Denham the Jeanmaker and Lee Jeans (where you can get your Limited editon Lee X ADD shirt when you buy a pair of jeans including bib)

Other stores that are participating are, G-Star RAW, Chasin and Score, Scotch & Soda Amsterdams Blauw, Urban Outfitters and the American Book Center. You can also take a close look inside Denim City in De Hallen (open to the public exclusively during Denim Days).

The map of the Blue route across Amsterdam will be available on our website from the beginning of April, as well as from all participating retailers and various hot spots around Amsterdam. Stay tuned for more details on the programme, to follow in early April!
