Animal Welfare Group Bans Versace

The Humane Society of the United States has written a letter to Donatella Versace in a bid to ask the Italian fashion house to discontinue the use of seal fur in their products. The letter, which was also signed by the 12 American Idol finalists, is in line with the US' largest animal protection organisation that campaigns against the commercial slaughter of animals.
With government figures showing as many as 1 million baby seals will be killed over the next three years in Canada, it becomes increasingly difficult for any designer to justify the use of animal fur in their collections. The American Idol finalists, a group that has attracted a media frenzy of publicity, stated they will not wear Versace clothes if the house supports Seal hunting. And rightly so.
