Annelie Schubert wins Hyères Prize

Fashion designer Annelie Schubert has been crowned the winner of the Première Vision Grand Prize at the 30th edition of the Hyères International Festival of Fashion and Photography in France.
The jury, chaired this year by Virginie Viard director of Chanel design studio and Karl Lagerfeld who acted as artistic director of this year’s festival, awarded the French-German designer the accolade for her womenswear collection, ‘Aprons’, which impressed the judges with its sculptural detailing.
Schubert, a graduate of the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg, who went on to do an internship with Haider Ackermann in Antwerp and master’s studies at Weissensee Kunsthochschulen in Berlin, beat off competition from nine emerging womenswear and menswear designers from Germany, Taiwan, France, Finland, Spain, and the Netherlands.
“We liked her work right away. She uses fabrics such as Neoprene and tweeds. There is a beautiful colour palette; it is very elegant, very refined,” Chanel’s Virginie Viard, told WWD.
Hyères Festival names fashion prize winners
As winner, Schubert will receive a scholarship of 15,000 euros, as well as the chance to work with the with the specialty ateliers that Chanel controls through its Paraffection subsidiary, who will finance the development of five silhouettes of up to 15,000 euros.
The jury also rewarded Taiwanese designer Chen Yiyu the Public Prize of the City of Hyères and the Dutch designer Wieke Sinnige received a special mention from the jury, and a grant valued at 10,000 euros for a collaborative project with some of Chanel’s specialty ateliers.
Additional, fashion house Chloe, who has been a major partner of the festival for the past four years, awarded its Chloe Prize to German designer Anna Bornhold for her feminine ‘Fashion.Imitation’ collection.
Other members of the jury included Carine Roitfeld, Caroline de Maigret, Princess Caroline of Hanover, and Anthony Vaccarello, the Hyères winner in 2006.
