Armani Designs Costume For Spanish Matador

Giorgio Armani has designed a costume for the famous Spanish bullfighter Cayetano Rivera Ordóñez for the upcoming LII ‘Corrida Goyesca’, taking place on September 6th, 2008 in Ronda, Spain. Ordóñez will wear a specially designed bullfighting costume, or goyesco: a techno satin jacket, trousers and cloak in Armani’s iconic greige. The three pieces are embroidered with sequins and small glitter stones. Armani’s collaboration with Rivera Ordóñez dates back to last year, when the designer tapped him for a Giorgio Armani Hand Made-to-Measure ad campaign.
Years ago, also painter Pablo Picasso designed the same costume for Cayetano’s grandfather, Antonio Ordoñez.
The ‘Corrida Goyesca’ is a unique and historical bullfight, taking place once a year in Ronda, in the South of Spain, inside the oldest bullfighting ring in Spain. Ronda is a charming small town close to Malaga and Sevilla, and is renowned for its historical and cultural heritage. Italian animal rights activists have protested against Armani’s support for bullfighting after the fashion icon.
