UK fashion e-tailer Asos has teamed up with the British Paralympic Association (BPA) to design formal and ceremony wear for the Paralympics GB. The online retailer is set to develop a capsule collection for the GB team during the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games.

Paralympians Will Bayley, Jordanne Whiley, Sam Ruddock and Lauren Steadman graced the famous Asos catwalk in London earlier this week, where they met the design teams who will be working on the formal wear range. Plans for the formal wear range are already underway, with Asos's design team using their design expertise to celebrate "individuality, whilst designing for a range of body types."

Nick Robertson, Chief Executive Officer at Asos commented: "We are proud to be the formalwear supplier for the Paralympics GB team. We are excited at the opportunity to showcase the very best of our design house by creating a fashionable moment for the team. At Asos we believe fashion is democratic and what better platform to celebrate than this?" Between 250 and 300 selected athletes and support staff will be given a capsule wardrobe to wear to a number of official Paralympic events, including the ceremonies.

"I’m sure our athletes will be just as excited about this announcement as we are and they’ll be keen to discover what they'll be wearing in Rio when they swap their tracksuits for formal wear," said Penny Briscoe, Chef de Mission at BPA. "Asos are an established, dynamic brand and our athletes will exude confidence wearing their designs. We'll be sending out the right message to the rest of the world when the team marches into the stadium."
