London Fashion Week might be a trade event, where designer’s showcase their latest collections to press and buyers, but this season the British Fashion Council is opening up the fashion event with a public programme.

The series of public events, from pop-ups to screenings and exclusive talks, is part of the LFW’s move to its new central London location in the heart of Soho, with the public programme centring around Golden Square, just a short walk from the official catwalk show space and designer showrooms at Brewer Street Car Park.

Golden Square will host the LFW Outdoor Cinema, which will show lifestreams of the LFW catwalk shows, as well as fashion films and digital presentations from a number of brands including McQ Alexander McQueen, Hunter, Showstudio, Vogue and Zoe Jordan. Daily highlights and celebrity interviews will also be featured, alongside the LFW debut of the American Express ‘London Fashion Week Talk Series’.

The LFW daily talk series will take place at Condé Nast College of Fashion and Design and will include curated talks from guest speakers from “all corners of the industry” including Peter Pilotto and Zandra Rhodes. The series will also open the college up to the public.

Other events include a Minnie Mouse style exhibition, paying homage to the Disney character style and influence on fashion co-curated by model and photographer Georgia May Jagger. The exhibition will feature photographs, archive imagery, sketches, celebrity portraits and fashion spreads, from as far back as the 1930s to the present day.

The square will also host pop-up shops from official sponsor Sunglass Hut, who will selling an edit of sunglasses including a UK Burberry exclusive, and Swiss timepiece brand Swatch will be launching its latest collection ‘Street Energy’ with an interactive ‘Mood-O-Meter’. There will also be a Hix FishDogs food van serving up hot snacks.

The Sunglass Hut has also teamed up with British designer Gareth Pugh for fashion week to create the official LFW tote bag.

LFW will also be celebrated around London with Carnaby Street hosting various screenings as well as hosting the Carnaby Style Night shopping event. Other retailers also getting involved includes Harrods, Liberty, Marks and Spencer and Topshop, who will all be showcasing LFW-inspired window installations.

London Fashion Week takes place from September 18 to 22.
