The British Fashion Council has announced the award categories for the Fashion Awards 2016 as voting goes live to an international panel of 1,500 industry influencers.

The fashion trade organization previously announced its aim to transform its annual fashion awards into a global event. Set to take place December 5th at the Royal Albert Hall, the Fashion Awards, looks to celebrate the best fashion talent of 2016 from the global fashion community.

The voting panel, which consists of influencers, media, CEOs, retailers and creatives, will decide who ten out of the 15 awards will be allocated to during the ceremony. From the 15 awards, seven will be open to international nominees from across the globe, as well as designer brands.

Four awards will be open to British talent, which are: British Menswear Designer of the Year, British Womenswear Designer of the Year, British Brand and Emerging Talent Award. Awards that are open to both British and international talent are: Model of the Year, Ready-to-Wear Designer of the Year, Accessories Designer of the Year, Urban Luxury, Fashion Icon, Creative Influencer and Business Leader.

The special recognition awards, which are also open to international nominees are: Outstanding Achievement Award, Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator, Special Recognition Award and Swarovski Award for Positive Change. The winners of the special recognition awards will be revealed ahead of the ceremony. The Fashion Icon award will be decided by public vote.

The Fashion Awards 2016 also marks the inaugural annual fundraiser gala for the British Fashion Council Education Foundation charity, which offers scholarships to talented young fashion-enthusiasts to study at the top fashion universities in the UK. The Education Foundation also provides funding for apprenticeships to develop industry skills and aims to generate 10 million pounds over the next ten years.
