British accessories brand The Cambridge Satchel Company is launching a lifestyle category as the brand heads into its 10th anniversary year in 2018.

Launching this month, Cambridge Life will initially feature a candle, diffuser and a cashmere scarf, all picked for the festive season, which will be followed up with further lifestyle products next year and beyond, said the accessories brand.

“Our customers tell us they see buying one of our bags as taking a piece of Cambridge with them,” explains Julie Deane, founder and chief executive of The Cambridge Satchel Company. “We are already synonymous with a lifestyle, our top posts across our social media channels are always focused on scenes in Cambridge, and this is a way of extending our product range to reflect our way of life.”

Deane added: “For our super fans this gives them more opportunity to really live the brand, to immerse themselves in a brand to which they feel connected.”

The Cambridge Life products launches with a signature bespoke scent, called ‘Cambridge’, which Deane has created to sum up life in Cambridge to her. It features the use of vanillin to give the quality of old books, as Cambridge University and education are at the heart of the brand’s hometown and story, while ozonic notes signify fresh air and crisp water, reminiscent of sitting by the River Cam, and bergamot brings a hint of Earl Grey tea and flowers, as Deane is an avid gardener and the British brand believes a cup of tea can fix almost anything, says the press release.

“Cambridge Life is about slow living; taking time to enjoy what brings you joy, the little things that can make a big difference”

Commenting on the Cambridge Life, Deane said: “For me, Cambridge Life is about slow living; taking time to enjoy what brings you joy, the little things that can make a big difference. It’s no secret that running The Cambridge Satchel Company, maintaining its growth and taking all the opportunities that come our way has been challenging. By taking the time to stop, switch off, light a candle and appreciate life we can press pause and then reset. I think it’s something many people will appreciate.”

Alongside the candle and diffuser, The Cambridge Satchel Company will also launch a cashmere scarf, which will be available in three colours including the brand’s best-selling oxblood, baby and grey. The overly long style is based on old ‘boatie’ scarves that Deane explains she became familiar with during her time at the University of Cambridge.

The lifestyle products will be available on the brand’s global website as well as in its five UK stores. The ‘Cambridge’ scent candle retails for 30 pounds, while the diffuser is 35 pounds, and the cashmere scarf is 95 pounds.

The Cambridge Satchel Company is the original satchel company founded in 2008 by Deane and her mother with a simple mission to bring back the traditional British satchel, which had all but been forgotten. Nine years later, the brand is a ‘Made in Britain’ global success story employing more than 150 people and even has its own factory in Leicestershire where it employs over 60 craftspeople.

The brand sells in more than 120 countries and has collaborated with designer brands including Comme des Garçons and Vivienne Westwood.
