TV presenter Kate Thornton is looking to take on established cash-back websites with her ‘smart shopping’ TBseen.com site, targeting women with online rewards, discounts and cashback from more than 500 retailers including Asos, Gap, Nike, Atterley, John Lewis, Debenhams and House of Fraser.

The cashback concept isn’t new to the British market, Quidco.com and Topcashback.com have been established for some time, however, TBseen is the first to cater specifically to the female shopper, aged 25 to 44, with the deals being mixed in with editorial ranging from fashion and health to technology to food and drink to make the website more of a destination than just a cashback portal.

TBseen was founded by Edd Royal, who was already using cashback sites, and he has been working with Thornton to establish a site that “adds value” alongside the cash incentives, which is where the idea came to combine the cashback with Thornton’s journalism background to produce editorial.

“I’d heard of cashback, but actually knew very little about it,” explains Thornton on the TBseen website. “Until I met Edd I’d never used a cashback site. When he explained to me how cashback works I was furious with myself for missing such a no-brainer. Why wouldn’t I want to earn money back on pretty much everything I was already buying?”

Thornton added: “Like most busy, working women I do most of my shopping online and by using cashback sites I could have been making huge savings. But I wasn’t alone. Lots of my friends were equally in the dark about cashback and those that had flirted with it had found the experience too much like hard work.

“So we set about building a site that was easy to use, full of the brands most women shop, a user experience that was more useful and way more entertaining.”

The site is free to join for over 16-year-olds and issues cashback payments via bank transfer on a monthly basis when the total cashback earned reaches 5 pounds. With every purchase a registered user makes, TBseen earns a percentage of the sales commission, which is then shared with the buyer. The cashback incentives vary for each brand, currently featured brands such as Asos and Atterley are offering up to 8 percent cashback, while Nike offers up to 7 percent, and Gap up to 6 percent.

To launch the site, Thornton has gathered a number of her celebrity friends including Myleene Klass, Tamzin Outhwaite, Lisa Faulkner, Amanda Byram, Heidi Range, Denise Van Outen, Nicole Appleton, Melanie Blatt, Natalie Appleton, Shaznay Lewis and Julie Graham, who feature in the launch imagery shot by Helena Christensen. The famous faces also star in the website’s curated ‘female friendly’ editorial and videos, with current content featuring Thornton showing how to dress for curvy body shapes and Denise Van Outen taking on the leopard print wardrobe challenge.

Other fashion retailers offering deals on TBseen includes Dorothy Perkins, French Connection, Jones Bootmaker, Schuh, Phase Eight, Boden, Very.co.uk, Peacocks, Evans, Moda in Pelle, SimplyBe, BHS, Miss Selfridge, Luisaviaroma, Office, Sports Direct, New Look, Wallis, Pauls Boutique, Wolford, Uniqlo, Ugg Australia, Clarks, Oliver Bonas, Boux Avenue, Matalan and Kurt Geiger.
