Christopher Bailey to design Claridge’s Christmas tree

Burberry’s Christopher Bailey is set to follow in the footsteps of Dolce & Gabbana, John Galliano and Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz to design Claridge’s Christmas Tree, which is showcased in the lobby of the Mayfair hotel.

Each year Claridge’s selects a top name from the world of design to create the festive centrepiece, and this year marks the first time a home-grown fashion talent has been picked for the prestigious honour.

Bailey’s festive design will be unveiled on November 16, however, we have been given a sneak preview of his tree and it will feature 100 gold and silver umbrellas. The tree will also incorporate motion sensors so that the fairy lights twinkle as guests walk past.

Commenting on the honour, Bailey said: "Christmas is one of my favourite times of the year so I was delighted to be asked to design the Claridge's Christmas Tree - the iconic hotel celebrating a joyful time.

“We wanted the tree to reflect the playfulness of the season with a little bit of the English weather thrown in. We also love the idea that the tree comes to life as guests pass by bringing a wonderful touch of festive magic to their stay."
