Singer, actress and the most followed person on Instagram with 104 million followers, Selena Gomez has been named as the face of Coach, which will see her designing a piece in partnership with the label.

The deal was rumoured last week and the American fashion brand has confirmed that Gomez will not only be starring in Coach’s autumn/winter 2017 fashion campaigns, but her partnership will also include a “special design project” with Coach executive creative director Stuart Vevers.

In addition, Gomez will also team up with the Coach Foundation's Step Up, an organisation dedicated to the empowerment of teen girls from under-resourced communities.

"I am so excited to work with Coach and love the clothes and accessories designed by Stuart Vevers,” said Gomez. “I am especially looking forward to getting to know the Coach team as well as becoming involved in the Foundation's support of Step Up. On top of all that, collaborating on a piece with Stuart for next fall makes this beyond special to me.”

Coach executive creative director Stuart Vevers added: "The woman I design for is authentic, honest and possesses a romantic charm mixed with a cool, confident attitude.

"Selena embodies all of these qualities perfectly - but the fact that she has always loved Coach, and believed so strongly in our philanthropic mission, made her a true Coach Girl.”

Though Coach have not disclosed Gomez’s fee from Coach, some media outlets have pegged it at 10 million dollars.

Previously, Gomez has designed her own K-Mart collection Dream Out Loud, launched in 2009, as well as collections with Adidas Neo from 2013 to 2015. The singer and actress has also appeared in ad campaigns for Louis Vuitton.

The announcement comes as Coach wraps up its 75th anniversary year, which has included the release of iconic vintage bags, a collaboration with Disney’s Mickey Mouse, as well as a catwalk show and party in New Year earlier this month to celebrate the men’s and women’s pre-autumn/winter 2017 collections.

This year has seen a number of celebrity ambassadors adding design credit to starring in ad campaigns, the face of Tommy Hilfiger Gigi Hadid launched a collection with the preppy label, and her boyfriend Zayn Malik the face of Versace Versus will unveil his collection with the label next year.
