Footwear brand Crocs, which polarises opinions, has named celebrities Drew Barrymore and John Cena, alongside South Korean singers Yoona and Henry Lau as global ambassadors in its “Come As You Are” campaign that aims to celebrate the uniqueness of individuals and inspire everyone to be comfortable in their own shoes.
“‘Come As You Are’ is an invitation for people to come together and share their one-of-a-kind-ness,” said Gregg Ribatt, Crocs chief executive officer. “Crocs has never wavered from its identity: optimistic, versatile, comfortable and not afraid to poke holes in convention. Drew, John, Yoona and Henry are perfect partners for what our brand stands for – including celebrating diversity and all that makes each of us unique.”
Commenting on her new role, Barrymore said: “When Crocs first approached me, I was immediately drawn to the positivity of the campaign. Embracing the ‘Come As You Are’ spirit is about being comfortable with your true self in all that you do.
“As a mother of two young children, that message is important to me. There’s so much more love than there is lack of love in the world. You just have to gravitate towards it.”
Crocs is known for its classic clog, which has been described as the ugliest shoe in the world, even Christopher Kane’s embellished marble print designs couldn’t make the style cool. However, in recent years the brand has started to embrace the fun design of its iconic shoe, even calling on its fans to post pictures of themselves wearing their Crocs.
The new ‘Come As You Are’ campaign will launch in early 2017.
Since its inception in 2002, Crocs has sold more than 350 million pairs of shoes in more than 90 countries around the world.
