Budding jewellery designer Ana de Costa took home the 'Young Jewellery Designer of the Year' acculade at the Retail Jeweller Awards. Before starting her degree at Central Saint Martins in London, Da Costa joined Erickson Beamon in 2001 to work on exclusive catwalk pieces for Ungaro, Cavali, and Elspeth Gibson. It was during this period she made contact with Shaun Leane and Alexander McQueen, both would play an integral role within Ana's career. Da Costa continued to collaborate with Leane, most recently on the October 2006 Alexander McQueen couture show.
Da Costa's designs are influenced by her travels, in particular to the Far East, by her Latin heritage and the decadence of the Art Nouveau period. With her particulair use of colour, Da Costa enhances the qualities of the jewels and demonstrates her talent and bohemian sense of style.
Currently, Da Costa's capsule collection for the Tanzanite Foundation is available exclusively at online boutique Kabiri. The jewellery pieces are inspired by Tarot Card imagery. Each jewel is a one-off and produced by hand from her London based studios.
