In its January issue, Dazed & Confused hands over creative control to British teenagers – responding to the question, “What does it mean to you to be young and British today?”, the project received over 400 individual article pitches in just ten days. Dazed & Confused presents 30 of the most unique and insightful stories in a special section of this month’s special issue, written entirely by the teenagers themselves, guided and assisted by editors at the magazine.

Renowned designer and photographer Hedi Slimane presents a 34-page fashion portfolio of British youth, styled by the magazine's creative director, Nicola Formichetti, including a 14-year-old Jessie and 17-year-old Louis who feature on the issue's two covers

DazedDigital.com also made three of Slimane's images available in advance, along with a downloadable Dazed cover template, asking teenagers to create their own covers, the best of which are showcased in the Teenage Takeover section.

Rod Stanley, editor of Dazed & Confused, on the Teenage Takeover: "We were really excited by the response to the Dazed teenage takeover. There were so many great ideas that javascript:SetCmd(cmdSend);we couldn't even begin to put them all in the magazine, so we'll be doing our best to get as much as possible up on DazedDigital.com as well. It's great to confound stereotypes, and be able to showcase the energy, creativity and positivity of young people today."

Nicola Formichetti, creative director of Dazed & Confused, on Hedi Slimane’s cover story: “Hedi is inspirational to work with. The whole project was so much fun! The shoot was four days long, and we’d go out every night to gigs, clubs, anywhere really, searching for kids to shoot the next day. What was groundbreaking about this particular shoot was the sheer scale of it – the amount of people we went through to find the final few was crazy. The aim was to create a definitive record of London youth right now through Hedi’s timeless style.”

Dazed & Confused is a 100% independent British fashion, culture and arts magazine, with a reputation for ground-breaking photography, fashion and editorial. Published monthly, it was founded by Jefferson Hack and photographer Rankin in 1992. Its editor is Rod Stanley, and Nicola Formichetti its creative director. Luxury biannuals AnOther Magazine and AnOther Man, and website DazedDigital.com, are part of the Dazed Group.
