Amsterdam-based Aruban designer and couturier Percy Irausquin died in an accident, as was reported by the Dutch press on Thursday. Irausquin, who was deemed by Vogue last year an up and coming talent about to make his footmark on the international fashion scene, showed his collection at Amsterdam Fashion Week just over a fortnight ago.

The designer, who was forging a new business path since parting with his former financier Steve te Pas, was hailed by the Dutch press as one of the country's most talented and individual of designers. Since his graduation from the prestigious Rietveld Academy, Irausquin frequently dressed the who's who of the Dutch social scene, it-girls and actresses and was a celebrity in his own right. His collection was frequently featured on the cover of glossy magazines, such as Elle and Marie Claire. His creations depicted a handwriting of exquisite draping and clever cuts, often interspersed with intricate fabrics, colour and technique.

Irausquin caught the eye of Christian Lacroix after graduating and perfected his skills with the atelier in Paris, before moving on to work at Givenchy, alongside corset specialist Hubert Barrere, at the house of Christian Dior.

Irausquin turned 39 in June this year. The circumstances of his death have not been confirmed, however the Dutch newspapers reported he slipped in his shower.
