Fashion goes white

The summer may seem ages away, but that won't stop fashionistas looking out for the cruise collections in store now in search of the summer's hottest looks. It's also the perfect excuse to buy new outfits for that February Caribbean break. This season, white dominated the catwalks and the colour is dubbed to the biggest trend for summer. Nostalgic and romantic yet regal and theatrical, it is the colour of wealth and was seen everywhere, from Balenciaga's ethereal cocktail dresses to Marc Jacob's drainpipe jeans.

For day, think Elizabeth Hurley; a high-maintenance symbol of affluence wearing pristine skintight white jeans and stepping off a yacht. For a wearable look, go for Jil Sander trousers with Jimmy Choo flats and a C&C California top. For a more forgiving silhouette, try Topshop for cropped white cotton trousers - just make certain they are well cut as you'll want them to be slimming. Wearing white on white doesn't have to be plain and works particularly well with texture and embroidery, such as lace, broderie anglaise, silk and cotton pique. Accessorise with anything from Chloe or Prada, and you're all set. See you in the Caribbean!
