Fashion goths

Marilyn Manson may be the extreme version of gothic fashion, but that hasn't stopped designers from launching it on the catwalks for AW06. The Goth aesthetic has been modernized to give way to more than just fishnets, leather, black tailoring and white made-up faces.

Designers such as Alexander McQueen, Viktor and Rolf and even Miu Miu experimented with goth-dom - be it a cape jacket, tailored trousers or flat lace up boots, you'll be dressing up according to the dark side for winter, believe it or not.

According to the Times, the silhouette of the early 21st century is finally taking shape, and it's direction seems to be fuller on top and slender below. That means big coats and cardigans a la Marc Jacobs and cigarette pants a la Balenciaga. And with lots of black you can pull off the goth look without being mistaken for being involved in louche criminal activity. Not according to the fashion police, anyway.
