Only the Oscars could match the gathering of celebrity, style and music talent that filled Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday for Fashion Rocks for The Prince's Trust. 5,800 people, including HRH The Prince of Wales, watched a spectacular evening that is expected to raise around GBP750,000 towards The Trust's work.

17 top designers - a virtual who's who of the fashion industry - showed their collections, each to the performance of a world-class musical artist, as a circular catwalk sent the models around the music stage. Some of the running order saw:

John Galliano for Christian Dior with flamenco dancing virtuoso Joaquin Cortes, Giorgio Armani with Beyonce, performing in a shiny creation of his. They were given a rousing lead-in - and the crowd a thrill - when they were introduced by actor Richard Gere.

Prada with Milla Jovovich and her band, Plastic Has Memory, Dolce and Gabbana and Blue. Naomi Campbell was on the catwalk modeling for Dolce, Alexander McQueen and Bjork, whose costume and fully sequined face didn't let anyone down, Stella McCartney with Grace Jones, Versace and Robbie Williams, who's performance covered much of the catwalk and brought down the house

David Bowie brought the evening to a close, not live but via a music video recorded specially for Fashion Rocks, naturally featuring his hit 'Fashion'. Even the venue was dazzling, with a 15-meter high screen backing the stage - the largest video projection ever used - and a giant satin-looking fan which folded into the stage floor to reveal each new music act.

Elizabeth Hurley and Denis Leary were presenters, and Ms Hurley made 17 costume changes - wearing an outfit from each designer.
