US fast-fashion chain Forever 21 is being sued by software firm Adobe Systems for allegedly using pirated versions of Photoshop.
According to the lawsuit, which was filed last week in a California District Court, Forever 21 has been using pirated versions of some of Adobe's most well known products, including Photoshop. The detailed case contains the registration numbers of the products used, as well as the dates on which the software in question was used.
Adobe claims that Forever 21 continued to use copies of the pirated software "even after being contacted by Adobe regarding the infringement." The software firm stresses that this is a case of "willful, intentional and malicious copyright infringement" and has requested that the court issues an injunction, in addition to a cash sum award for lost revenues, court costs and any additional damages caused.
It remains unclear as to how Adobe learnt that Forever 21 was allegedly using pirated versions of its software on its premise, but over the past few years the software firm has worked hard to crack down on companies misusing it software.
Adobe adds that it remains "difficult to ascertain the amount of damages" caused by Forever 21 misuse of its software and that most likely several hearings would be needed to see how much Forever 21 use of pirated software has affected the company.
