French Connection steps into bridal wear for spring/summer 2018

French Connection has joined a growing list of high street fashion brands and launched its own affordable range of bridalwear.

The collection, which is set to launch next February for Spring/Summer 2018, will consist of a range of romantic gowns, as well as separates, such as tops and trousers keeping in line with young brides seeking out more functional and versatile wedding attire for their big day.

"In recent years, we’ve seen customers making purchases from French Connection's main collections for their weddings," said design director, Maria Chen, to British Vogue ahead of the collection launch. "Shoppers are able to buy affordable pieces in every other category except bridal, so it felt like a natural progression to launch a wedding capsule. With the growing trend of wedding dresses that don’t blow the budget, as well as bride’s wearing multiple outfits on the day, the idea was welcomed by our inner circle of brides-to-be."

The bridal range is also said to have been inspired celebrities wedding gowns, including those worn by Kate Moss, Poppy Delevinge and Bianca Jagger on their big day. "Our moodboard was filled with the details that made their bridalwear special," added Chen. "For example, Poppy and Kate’s beading, Bianca’s tailored separates." Key items from the collection include a romantic, bohemian style dress called Cari and the Palermo dress, with intricate detailing on the bodice. Prices for the range vary from 65 pounds for a shirt to 295 pounds for a gown

French Connection aims to offer seasonal wedding looks for customers all year round, as its bridal range includes both wedding dress and bridesmaid gowns. The label's bridal wear collection builds on its current offering of winter wedding attire, which includes lace and 3D floral maxi dresses.
