Denim company G-Star Raw has collaborated with tattoo icon Henk Schiffmacher. The collection includes limited-edition denim dungarees in a run of only 250 units globally, each signed, numbered, and designed by Schiffmacher.
Schiffmacher is known as the tattoo artist to famed celebrities including the late Kurt Cobain, Lady Gaga, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Schiffmacher is considered a living legend in the tattoo world.
The dungarees have a straight fit with various stitches, a reference to tribal tattoos and the origins of the art of tattooing and the tattoos that Schiffmacher has on his legs. The stitches reference various symbols and mythology.
“I wear overalls every day, the garment allows you to move freely, allowing you to practice your trade,” said Schiffmacher in a statement. “As a result, the origin of the overall may be traced back to workman’s clothes and the history of the profession that I do. I’ll wear them till they’re gone!”
The dungarees have “wear and tear” patches, inspired by old dungarees belonging to Schiffmacher and embroidered graphics including a winking skull smiley, Schiffmacher’s famous visual autograph inspired by a wooden cross with a skull that he found in Mexico. Other features of the dungarees include reinforced denim pads on the upper legs, multiple patch pockets, zipper closure at the front and shank button closure at the sides. The cinch at the back and on the shoulder straps offer adjustability in height and width. The dungarees are made from Higa Denim, which has a deep indigo with slight green cast resembling the natural oxidation process which happens over time on vintage indigo dyed jeans. The G-Star Raw and Henk Schiffmacher collaboration is now available on G-star.com.
