The international nautical lifestyle brand Gaastra is continuing on its ‘Fashion Follows Function’ course and is using its new SS16 collection to demonstrate the brand’s evolution and development throughout the years. The new 2016 Gaastra Spring/Summer collection is all about creating a new perception and reinvention with the sports clothing line, as well as the new breton Yacht Club and Sailmaker clothing lines. This is the first time Gaastra is presenting the new lines and the collection at the Modefabriek (Fashion Trade Fair). The collection for SS16 is now more complete than ever before and uses its design to take a look back at the major and international evolution which the brand has gone through since its founder Douwe Gaastra started his sail manufacturing company in Sneek in 1897, at the tender age of 22. Gaastra is paying tribute to iconic pieces like the crew hacks, pea coats and polo’s, which made the company what it is today, with an on-trend approach with new fits and designs.

RETRO SPORT
The Sports collection consists of clean and refined looks with an unexpected twist where the material usage is concerned. Various different materials are mixed up, like simple cotton combined with shimmering lurex and neoprene. The retro look and feel is particularly evident in the statement items for men. Nautical colour blocking in stripes or triangle shapes refer to nautical signal flags. The collection also focusses on richly decorated badges, embroidery and applications. The basic colour package, white and blue, mixed with deep yellow, has given the items their clear nautical character. The collection is complemented with classic nautical pop colours like red, orange and green. Lighter materials have been used for the high summer collection and the pop colours have been complemented with sun faded brights for that real summery feeling. A few unexpected turns in the high summer garments are the technical rubber prints, the geometric design based on the spinnaker used in all-over prints and the transparent rib stop which is used in the jacket designs.

CLASSIC YACHT CLUB LOOK & FEEL
The old classics like the Mariniere and the Pea Coat have also been reinvented in many different variations within the new and more sophisticated breton Yacht Club line. The distinctive design with a clear nautical sailor look has given the items a true yacht club look and feel. Gaastra’s passion for the nautical heritage is clearly visible in the graphic designs with a retro and nautical preppy approach. ‘Cut and Sew’ is a central focus point here. The classic look has been turned into a clear look where khaki and grey tones have been added to the blue and white basis. The nautical pop accent colours of lighthouse red and tango orange have resulted in the classic look.

TRADITIONAL AND SUN FADED
Gaastra’s traditional history and the classic yacht heritage is evident in the Sailmaker line. Research into history and traditional nautical elements like rope, anchors, sails and wind roses have been brought to life in a new and contemporary look. The collection consists of indigo shades and sun weathered and faded fabrics. Muted shades combined with powder pastels in pink, green and blue have given the Sailmaker collection a casual and timeless look.

LAUNCH DURING THE MODEFABRIEK
Gaastra will be presenting the new Men/Women SS16 collection and will be introducing the 2 new Yacht Club and Sailmaker clothing lines for the first time during the Modefabriek event on 12th & 13th July 2015 (stand 01.296).

Introduction of the girls’ clothing line at the Kleine Fabriek (Junior Fashion Event)
The brand is unabatedly continuing with its brand development. Gaastra presented the new 2016 Junior Spring Summer collection during the Kleine Fabriek event in Amsterdam last weekend and thereby also launched Gaastra’s very first GIRLS clothing line. The junior collection is now more complete than ever before, with the addition of a girls’ clothing line, a new design team and an increased focus on fits, styling and functionality.
