Garment Technologists are employed by manufacturers and large high-street retailers. They support design and buying teams through all stages of product development, from design to manufacture. As a garment technologist your responsibilities would include:

  • suggesting modifications to designs if necessary
  • advising on suitable fabrics
  • making sure that the most appropriate construction methods are used
  • making sure garments can be produced within budget
  • overseeing fabric testing and fittings of first samples
  • responding to product queries
  • analysing product returns and faults.

You would work closely with other staff such as designers, pattern cutters and graders, and buyers. What qualifications and experience will employers look for? To be a garment technologist you would usually need a degree in a subject related to clothing technology and production.

Various roles in London and Nottingham area

Supplying the major High St Retailers with Ladieswear or Lingerie and Swimwear, our established suppliers are looking to expand their teams with a Garment Technologist.

You will be in a similar GT role, making your own pattern alterations and adjustments following the fit meetings. Previous experience in a UK High St. manufacturing business is essential.
