Gentlemen's shoemaker Harrys of London is to open a flagship boutique in fashionable Mayfair. The South Audley Street store will be in good company, with neighbouring boutiques such as Marc Jacobs, Christian Louboutin and Aesop. The boutique was conceived by Martel, together with Paris based architect Ed Church of TCH to ensure a retail experience befitting the discerning Harrys of London clientele. Church’s previous projects include designing the flagship stores for both Ralph Lauren and Joyce, Hong Kong, one of Asia's most iconic boutiques.

Designed as a library motif, shoes will be arranged as 'books' and accessible by sliding wooden librarian ladders. The interior details include cornicing, four-meter high ceilings and a reclaimed herringbone parquet floor. The furniture is a melange of Parisian flea market discoveries and custom-made pieces tailored in signature Harrys of London leathers and textiles.

Says Creative Director Kevin Martel, “Mayfair, and specifically the Mount Street area was always the focus for our first retail location. The eclectic area is so unique to London –traditional English shops juxtaposed with cutting-edge luxury boutiques, in the midst of a chic, residential neighbourhood. The area itself has a very personal feel which is exactly the type of service we seek to offer our clients.”

The Harrys of London flagship boutique is scheduled to open Summer 2008.
