Harvey Nichols aims to bring a sprinkling of Hollywood glamour to the North West with the opening of its last full-scale department store in Manchester. The 95,000sq ft, three-floor store, which opened last week, has accessories and cosmetics on the split level ground floor. Womenswear, lingerie and kidswear is on the first and menswear, the food market, bar and restaurant is on the second floor.
The interior of the store has been designed by Four IV, the agency behind the company's Edinburgh store, which opened last year. Subtle colours, tinted glass and silk screens draw on Hollywood glamour and Art Deco influences. The great sense of space create a luxurious feel so the merchandise and brands stand out.
The proximity of Selfridges, which opened in Manchester's Exchange Square last year, will only add to the city centre's growing reputation as a shopping destination. While the Manchester store will be the last full-scale department store opening, Harvey Nichols believes there is scope for up to 10 small format stores along the lines of Birmingham's Mailbox.
