Harvey Nichols is due to open in Dublin as one of the anchor tenants at the prestigious Dundrum Town Centre development, next March. The upmarket department store is reported to be paying a rent of around €1.5m a year for a prime location in the €250m development on Dublin's south side.

The Harvey Nichols store will face onto the new civic square at Dundrum, where other retailers already signed as tenants at Dundrum include Marks and Spencer, House of Fraser, Zara, Hugo Boss, Furla, Tommy Hilfiger, and H&M.

Harvey Nicks' high fashion offer will put it in direct competition with Dublin's venerable Brown Thomas department store, with both featuring many of the same designer brands. Brown Thomas is part of the Weston family empire which also includes Selfridges and London stores Heals and Fortnum & Mason.

Harvey Nichols is owned by Hong Kong entrepreneur Dickson Poon, who aims to transform it into a global luxury goods brand in its own right. The Dublin store is to be modelled on the Harvey Nichols Edinburgh outlet, which like Dundrum is part of a new building development. Other new stores planned for next year include outlets in New York and Dubai. Beyond its flagship London store, Harvey Nichols now has outlets in Leeds, Birmingham, Manchester and Riyadh.
