London - The city of London has been buzzing with more activity than usual as London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2017 continued through the weekend onto Monday and Tuesday. With the bi-annual, international fashion showcase set to come to an end this evening with a show from menswear designer Oliver Spencer, FashionUnited takes a moment to reflect on a few of the high points from Day 4 and Day 5 of LFW and highlight some shows you may have missed.

Roksanda

Serbian-born, British designer Roksanda Ilincic presented a muted down palette for Spring/summer 2017. The designer, who is best known for her use of bright and bold colours, opted for a less vivid colour selection for her sports-infused collection, embracing terracotta hues and earthy shades. In order to keep things fresh, Roksanda did infuse a dash of golden yellows and vibrant purples, as well as light pinks, cornflower blues and white as the designer was inspired by nature fading in the late summer.

Silk slip dress and sun dresses featured exposed zippers or bell sleeves complete with striped cuffs to give them that sporty edge, whilst wide trousers showcased race stripes down the sides. Key pieces included a golden bomber jacket, worn over wide culottes , a feather print blouse complete with strand like feather, and a black evening gown featuring oversized white feathers.

Erdem

Dark florals, ruffles and romantic gowns in throw back to Victorian and Edwardian periods served as the center piece for the Spring/Summer 2017 collection from Erdem. Presented in an elaborate set created in the old Selfridges hotel basement, designer Erdem Moralioglu is said to have been inspired by the discovery of a 17th century dress, unearthed in the Wadden Sea. The dress is said to have belonged to a lady in waiting to Queen Henrietta Maria, a Jean Kerr, who set sail to the Netherlands in 1642 to escort the Queen's daughter to her future husband, William II, Prince of Orange. However her ship sank on the way.

For his collection, Moralioglu reimagined the laides arrival, resulting in long, gowns crafted from crinkled silk and lace, with some featuring pattern jacquerd or ruffles complete with high necks and ribbons. The palette consisted of cool pale shades of grays, silvery blues, whites and blacks, with injections of bright red and yellow.

Luxury fashion label Joseph's Spring/Summer 2017 collection is self-procclaimed to be a "nomadic expedition into the sensibilites of modern dress." The brand combined its womenswear and menswear collection into a single show for the first time, following in the steps of Gucci, Vetements and Burberry. Creative director Louise Trotter favoured modern silhouettes, mixd with utility wear which was easy to layer. Stand out pieces from the collection included the labels own reinterpretation of the trench coat, which was lengthen and oversized.

Burberry

One of the most anticipated shows of the week saw British heritage fashion house Burberry revealed its debut, seasonless womenswear and menswear collections during a show at the Maker's House. Inspired by Virginia Woolf's novel Orlando and interior designer Nancy Lancaster, the resulting collections mixed the romanticism of the Victorian age with 30s style dressing - think tulle, ruffs and jacquard prints, mixed with silk striped pyjama trouses, velvet dresses and military trench coats. "A love letter to the past and to English history, and a kind of dressing up box to visit and revisit," said Chief Creative Officer Christopher Bailey on the collection.

Key items for women included dresses in macrame, velvet and floral jacquard, accentuated with tiered ruffles and bell sleeves, with colours and prints inspired by wallpaper prints. Stand out pieces for men included boxy military coats crafted from structured wool, complete with rounded, domed buttons and sculpted shearling aviator jackets. As one of the first brands to shift away from the traditional fashion week calender, the collections were released in stores and online for sale immediaely following the show.

The Portuguese duo behind Marques Almeida, Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida, were all smiles as they took to the catwalk this afternoon following their Spring/Summer 2017 collection show. Known for its fun and playful designs, the brand certainly did not disappoint with its latest collection, which featured over the top flares with cut off hems, silver patent leather trousers, floral jackets and jumpsuits complete with lace and ruffle trims. Black and white stripes were also heavily featured in the collections, on blouses, loafers and trousers.
