This week, IED Barcelona’s Jone González, a postgraduate student in wedding and ceremony dress design won the 2024 edition of the Bridal Scholarship for Talent award by Gratacós, a fabric manufacturing company from Barcelona.

To qualify for the award, each student had to present two designs made from basic cotton fabric (natural and organic fabric) under any theme, created with the moulage technique used in haute couture.

Jone González presented her proposal ‘Musa’ within her broader ‘Antinuy’ collection, inspired by coral sculptures and a professional jury selected it as the winning design from the 24 designs presented by 12 students.

The contest was exclusive to IED Barcelona students. It forms a part of the master programme in wedding and ceremony dress design.

Apart from Musa, the jury praised two other student designs. ‘Abril’ (‘april’), from the collection ‘El Jardín de mi Familia’ (‘my family’s garden’) by Andrea Barbato, was chosen as the runner-up. ‘Flos’, from student Marcela Amabal’s ‘Permanencia’ (‘permanency’) collection, which is inspired by floral ceramic works, ended up in third place.

The judging panel for the 2024 edition of the scholarship contest consisted of Gloria Casacuberta and Aida Molano from Gratacós, and Albasarí Caro, director of Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week, among others.

Jone González will receive 1000 euros in prize money, to be used for the purchase of Gratacós fabrics. In addition, her Musa dress will be displayed in Gratacós shop window in Barcelona during the month of April.
