British fashion house Jaeger has announced plans for a major international expansion to increase its presence abroad. At present, about 85 percent of Jaeger's total sales are generated in the UK , although this may change as the retailer expands its retail, franchise and wholesale business over the next 12 to 18 months. It intends to double its current number of overseas stores from 40 to 80.

Jaeger will be entering eight new markets as it expands its presence, including the US , South Asia , Australia and Eastern Europe . This will bring the total number of territories in which the retailer is active to 20, with further expansion planned for 2008/9. The company has appointed Adrian McAllister as Head of International Development to oversee the expansion plans. He joins the firm from Burberry, where, for seven years, he was responsible for the development of various major international markets.

"As we continue to strengthen the Jaeger brand in the UK and appeal to more customers through Jaeger, Jaeger London and Jaeger Black across our men's, women's and accessories collections we are ready to focus on the international expansion of the brand," Jaeger's chief executive Belinda Earl said. Earl was appointed chief executive in September 2004. Since then, the fashion house has seen its fortunes improve. In 2006, Jaeger was awarded Superbrand status for the second consecutive year.
