Joseph Ettedgui, founder of fashion label Joseph, has quit the firm in a mutual agreement with the company's current management. Ettedgui, 69, who founded the label thirty years ago, had agreed to remain with the firm for two more seasons after it was sold to Onward Kashiyama earlier in the year.

"The deal was a very amicable one," said a spokesperson for the company. "Ettedgui has a lot of other interests outside the company, such as his involvement in his wife's leather goods business, Connolly. It is an exciting time for the company. Managing director Marc Forestier has worked with Onward Kashiyama for many years and all of the design team are staying on with the company as it enters its new phase of development."

Commenting on Ettedgui's departure, Forestier said that working with Joseph had been "a huge privilege".
