Katharine Hamnett is re-launching for Spring Summer 2005 with a line called Katharine E Hamnett. The 'E' stands for as environmental and ethical as is possible within the industry and will be ongoing. She will be the first major designer to successfully produce a collection that is fashionable in the most humane and environmental way possible.

Hamnett will be controlling the garment from pesticide free source to use of chemicals in the manufacturing process to ethical labour in factories. Current estimates say that conventional cotton kills between 20,000 (WHO figures) to a million people from accidental pesticide poisoning per year. A million people across the world work in the clothing industry under appalling conditions.

After a series of disappointments with the indifference within the fashion industry, Katharine Hamnett decides to do it herself because nobody else seems to want to do it. Hamnett will design fashion that encompasses the best possible environmental collection available on the market.

The collection consists of Mens and Womens fashion essentials. Sportswear, knitwear, Protest tees, organic cotton, chrome free leather, see island cotton, organic Mongolian cashmere, non violent silk, recycled metal trims and farmed mother of pearl buttons, recycled packaging.

The line is targeted to the best retail shops throughout the world. The collection retails from £35 to £1000. Its not Eco look, it will be available in colours, Katharine E Hamnett is fashion but incidentally environmental.
