John Stephen, leader of the 1960s male peacock revolution, is now being commemorated by the city of Westminster, with a Green Plaque at 1 Carnaby Street. This was where he opened the first of his 15 shops, which would later transform the area into the fashion epicenter of the Swinging Sixties. He revolutionized men's fashion by bringing ex appeal to menswear - with hipster trousers, floral shirts, velvet jackets and even mini kilts and kaftans.

Stephen, who died last year, will be showcased in a special exhibition at the V&A museum, where his iconic clothes will be on display in a 'Swinging Sixties' exhibition. Carnaby Street seems to have come full circle, and is again at the forefront of men's fashion, with stores such as G:Room, Lee and American Apparel.
