Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the British Fashion Council, London Fashion Week SS10 hosted 59 shows over 6 days and featured 26 on schedule designers. Alongside the womenswear presentations, the first full menswear day on schedule was launched together with the Newgen Men sponsorship scheme. On the catwalk there were five Newgen designers including House of Holland, Mark Fast, Mary Katrantzou, Meadham Kirchhoff and Peter Pilotto

London Fashion Week exhibition attracted 200 ready-to-wear and accessory exhibitors. The fashion fair played host to 28 estethica designers, 17 Newgen designers, 13 as part of the Lingerie Collective, and 6 Multibrand Showrooms. Last season orders placed were in the region of £100m. Over 5,000 visitors were expected including buyers, TV & radio crews, journalists and photographers.

In 2007, the clothing industry produced £3.8 billion worth of goods clothing and textile industries combined produced £8.5 billion worth of goods. Fashion retail is the second largest employer, the clothing industry is particularly important in terms of its widespread location and its high female employment - almost 80% of employees in the clothing industry are women. The sector also provides opportunities to minority groups to a greater extent than most other creative industries.Source: BFC
