Following the successful launch of its fashion collection, German supermarket chain Lidl is set to launch a range of traditional Scottish Highlander wear, including kilts and sporrans to celebrate the upcoming Burns Night.

From January 15 and onwards, the discounter retailer will launch its collection of Scottish wear across all its 610 UK locations, following a successful pilot in Scotland last July, which saw the entire range sell out in a matter of days.

The debut collection includes a Men's kilt, which measures the full 8 yards and is available in two tartans schemes for 29.99 pounds, men's Ghillie shirts for 1.99 pounds, a leather sporran for 9.99 pounds and kilt wool socks for 3.99 pounds.

Lidl will also be offering kids' playable bagpipes, which come in three tartans for 12.99 pounds. “This fantastic range, at unbelievably low prices, will give everyone the chance to celebrate Burns Night in proper Scottish style, whilst showcasing Scotland’s proud heritage and traditions," commented Josie Stone, non-food buying manager for Lidl.

“Highlandwear can often be unaffordable to many, costing hundreds of pounds, so it’s great to be able to offer a real 8 yard kilt for under 30 pounds.” The annual celebration, which commemorates the life of bard Robert Burns, falls on January 25 this year.
