British model Lily Cole on Wednesday led protesters on London's Millennium Bridge calling for Britain to help more children caught up in the demolition of France's "Jungle" migrant camp.
Cole was among around 100 demonstrators carrying placards and large red hearts in the shadow of St Paul's Cathedral, urging the immediate resettlement of more children from the Calais camp.
"We're here to stand in solidarity with all the unaccompanied minors in Calais, to show we them we feel that how they are being treated is unacceptable and to urge the British and French governments to accelerate their settlement," said event organiser Remi Olajoyegbe.
"We are talking about young children who are sleeping in a dirt wasteland." Fresh fires broke out Wednesday on the second day of operations to dismantle the squalid migrant camp on the northeastern French coast, sending people fleeing with their meagre belongings.
Located next to the port of Calais, the "Jungle" has for years been a launchpad for migrants attempting to make it to Britain by sneaking onto trucks or jumping onto trains heading across the Channel.
On Monday, French fashion designer Agnes b called on Britain to do "the decent thing" and take all the children in the "Jungle" who have family in the UK. (AFP)
