Mohammed Rehman and his former wife Sana Ahmed Khan have been jailed for life for planning a terror attack on London's Westfield shopping center and the London underground around the tenth anniversary of the 7/7 bombings.
The duo were found guilty of planning and preparing terrorist attacks by a London court earlier this week, and sentenced to a minimum of 27 years and 25 years in prison respectively. According to numerous media reports, the duo had married in secret Islamic ceremony and turned to extremism after they became estranged from their families.
Rehman was found guilty of possessing an item for terrorist purpose after police found explosives in his home in Reading and was reportedly stockpiling chemicals to build bombs with money given to him by his wife. The pair where first caught out when they took to Twitter under the name 'Silent Bomber' and began sharing tweets that referred to their plans for an attack.
One of their tweets read: "London Underground or Westfield shopping centre? Any advice would be appreciated greatly," implying the centre was on their list of potential targets. London's Westfield centre is currently hosts over 250 international and national retailers such as Topshop, Marks & Spencer, Tiffany & Co. and Mulberry and home to the headquarters for Yoox Net-a-Porter Group.
