The V&A celebrated one of India’s most prominent designers last week by hosting a show for Manish Arora. The Delhi-based creator, who in India is described as “a wild mix of traditional Indian costume and pop art,” was featured in the museum’s Fashion in Motion and India Now season.
Highlights of the show were his London and Delhi dresses, depicting well known symbols and sights from each city, which took over 300 hours to embroider. The London dress features Big Ben, the London Eye and Tube Stations and is encrusted with Swarovski crystals.
Arora stated: “This is the perfect opportunity to have both dresses on show together. They usually get a wonderful response. The London dress is my take on the familiar sights using intricate techniques to create a stunning piece.”
