UK-based directional streetwear brand Maharishi has taken legal action against retailer Abercrombie & Fitch for trade dress infringement.

The lawsuit, filed in the Southern District of New York Federal Court in Manhattan, claims that Abercrombie & Fitch has infringed Maharishi's trade dress by copying various elements of its trade-marked Snopants product.

Maharishi is seeking an injunction to stop A&F from further infringement and compensation from the retail chain for the alleged past infringement.

Maharishi creative director Hardy Blechman claimed: "Not only did A&F replicate the distinctive elements of the Snopants but it even went so far as to replicate the embroidered dragon the back leg."

Abercrombie & Fitch and Maharishi have started discussions to resolve the alleged infringement.
