Marks and Spencer has announced that London-based fashion designer Michael van der Ham is the latest collaborator in its ‘M&S &’ series.

Van der Ham has worked alongside the Marks and Spencer design team to create an eight-piece accessories collection of handbags and footwear, which has been inspired by his love of eclectic fabric composition and surprising use of colour.

Launching in April, the capsule accessories collection includes both bags and footwear in a vivid colour palette of acid yellow, electric blue and slate grey. Prices start at 25 pounds for the flat embellished sandals to 39.50 pounds for a slate grey printed tote.

Commenting on the collection, Van der Ham said: “Contrasting fabrications and the layering of textures have always inspired my creative; so I wanted to produce a capsule collection of accessories that was true to this aesthetic, but with a playful spring edge.”

Karen Peacock, head of design for footwear and accessories added: “Michael’s unique approach to design and textiles has been hugely inspiring to work alongside, as his signature style has been elegantly interpreted for the Marks & Spencer consumer.”

Van Der Ham is the latest name to join the retailer’s ‘M&S &’ series, which aims to launch unique and exclusive collaboration with influential designers, brands and fashion icons. The initiative, which is founded on style and craftsmanship launched last month with the announcement of a collaboration with Alexa Chung, who has taken inspiration from the retailer’s archives.

The Marks and Spencer Michael van der Ham collaboration will launch on April 14 at select stores and on the retailer’s website.
