Marks & Spencer is setting it first foot within the realm of branded footwear by teaming up with British footwear label Walsh to sell branded trainers.

The new partnership is said to be part of the department store group's scheme to shift its apparel upmarket whilst boosting the number of items which are manufactured in the UK. The trainer brand, based in Bolton, has created eight performance trainers for Marks & Spencer, four for men and four women which will retail for 110 pounds, according to the Telegraph.

The trainers will become part of M&S's Best of British Range which solely offers products manufactured in the UK and is slated to hit stores this fall. "This season will see the Best of British collection continue to champion the finest of British craftsmanship from around Britain," said a spokesman for M&S.

"Our collaboration with Walsh, who were established in 1961, further highlights another long-standing British brand that has achieved greatness through quality and innovation, and we are extremely excited with the union."
