MCM and Luar unveil collaborative leather bag during NYFW

MCM and New York-based label Luar have collaborated on a bag unveiled during New York Fashion Week in celebration of MCM's 50th anniversary.

The style, named the Anima MCM x Luar Leather Drawstring, was unveiled during Luar's spring/summer 2027 show earlier this week. Luar founder Raul Lopez combined elements from six bag models from the MCM archive to create the silhouette. The collection is set to be available online and in select stores from December.

According to the company, this is not a reissue of an existing design. Instead, familiar shapes and details have been reinterpreted and developed into a unique silhouette. The Anima will be available in three sizes and in black, espresso and cognac colourways. The materials include leather, snakeskin-embossed leather and suede.

“MCM has an incredible history of constantly redefining what luxury can look and feel like. I wanted to capture that very spirit and make it my own through Luar,” Lopez was quoted as saying in the press release.

The archival references give the bag a deliberately vintage-inspired character, which Luar translates for the modern day. “Our heritage is a starting point, never a boundary. Luar brings a fresh, intuitive energy to the MCM archive, giving new expression to familiar codes,” said Dirk Schönberger, chief brand officer of MCM Worldwide.
