McQueen wins Brit Insurance Fashion Award

The seven category winners of the 2010 Brit Insurance Design Awards have been announced and the overall winner will be revealed on 16th March 2010. Late Alexander McQueen was awarded with the Fashion Award for his SS10 and Catwalk presentation Plato’s Atlantis. Winners originate from Chile, China, Netherlands, UK and USA.
The Brit Insurance Architecture Award went to Monterrey Housing from Mexico. Jair Straschnow from the Netherlands took home the Furniture Award. Ben Terrett, Russell Davies and Tom Taylor from the UK won the Graphic Award for their Newspaper Club. The Interactive Award 2010 went to The EyeWriter by members of Free Art and Technology, openFrameworks, Graffiti Research La, The Ebeling Group and Tony Quan from USA. British designer Min-Kyu Choi was awarded with Product Award for Folding Plug, and the Transport Award 2010 went to E430 Electric Aircraft by Yuneec International from China.
Antony Gormley Chair of the Jury commented: "The seven winners provide a snapshot of some of the most outstanding designs from the past 12 months and reflect the important role design plays in improving people’s lives.”
The seven winning designs will compete for the overall Brit Insurance Design of the Year 2010, to be announced at the Awards Ceremony at the Design Museum. The winning entries, along with all the shortlisted designs, are on show at the Design Museum until 6th June 2010.
