Men's retailer accused of 'misleading' discounts

A major men's fashion chain has been exposed for "misleading" shoppers over price cuts. The Officers Club plastered its 180 branches with adverts promoting 70 per cent discounts. But an Office Of Fair Trading probe found the "reduced" prices were often the standard charges. Founder David Charlton had to give a High Court undertaking to drop the ads. OFT chairman Sir John Vickers said: "Low prices are fine, but misleading discounts distort consumer choice."
