Fashion

Only a couple more days until the international fashion crowd gathers at Modefabriek, where everything revolves around the newest collections, brands, trends, product innovations, collaborations, talents, initiatives, techniques and technologies. With the new look and pay-off – ‘More Than Mode’ – Modefabriek emphasises its continuing power of innovation in the dance with time. This is the last programme update before this summer edition on 10 & 11 July:

EXPO & SHOP: NUDE VS NAKED

This ‘shop the trend’ exhibition, put together by stylist Floor Knaapen, is both a trend installation and an online store. With her hand-picked selection from collections by Nike, Wolford, La Fille d’O and from young talents Fatma Kizil and Jule Waibel, and design items from Studio Belén , Muuto, Moroso, Aldo Bakker, Ole Jensen, Studio WM and shops such as Restored and Mobilia, to name just a few, NUDE VS NAKED proves that the nude trend is still actual.

EXPO: EXACTITUDES by ARI VERSLUIS & ELLIE UYTTENBROEK

For more than 20 years already – as long as Modefabriek has existed – Rotterdam photographer Ari Versluis and ‘profiler’ Ellie Uyttenbroek have worked as fashion anthropologists on their ‘exactitudes’; a series of portraits of ordinary people both young and old who belong very specifically to a group with a specific attitude and matching clothing style. What started out as the documentation of ravers has expanded into an international study of the tribal aspect of fashion as we see and recognize every day on the street.

SHOP: OUTSPOKEN DESIGNER STORE X GOLDFISHED

The Outspoken Designer Store by gallery Majke Hüsstege is not just a trendy pop-up shop, but an inspiring hang-out with an edgy selection of ‘outspoken’ labels and music, art and live performances by Goldfished, an online lifestyle movement of ‘contemporary pirates’. The theme this summer is Punky Chic; get a tattoo on the spot, score hand-painted sneakers and admire the live painting on Futura denim.

DESIGNERS: PROSPECT

Talent has always been a very important ingredient at Modefabriek and over the years, we have created various platforms. Including everyone from fresh new graduates to unusual start-ups and proven talent from designer labels. In Prospect in District D you will find today’s must-see talents, chosen by Carlo Wijnands: Spijkers&Spijkers by sisters Truus and Riet Spijkers from Arnhem, the women’s shoes label Eijk Amsterdam, Setting the Mood with their leather scarves from Schagen, the young Dutch-Curaçaoan designer Anbasja Blanken, the Hague shoe label Bend-it by Anke and Inge Kuipers, knitwear label KELE Clothing from Budapest and La Methamorphose from Montreal. Carlo has also selected the best ‘prospects’ from this summer’s Dutch fashion graduates: Daniel Aitouganov and Evie Cowan from AMFI Amsterdam, Marina van Dieren, Ailene van Elmpt and Johanna Bas Backer from ArtEZ Arnhem, Steven van Rijt and Suzanne Barten from HKU Utrecht, Yamuna Forzani and Nadie Borgreve from KABK Den Haag and Yoko Maja Hansen from the Rietveld in Amsterdam. Meet the designers and check out their work!

ENJOY: GARDEN OF MODEFABRIEK

Not only intended to welcome everyone in style, but also for the much-needed fresh air break, this summer the outdoors at Modefabriek is in the form of a lush green oasis in the square at the entrance. There will be greenhouses in this Garden of Modefabriek, containing small shops, food and drink stations and ... music! None other than Amsterdam singer/songwriter Marle Thomson will be here to perform songs from her new album, The Canopy. You’ll really want to hear this, so set your alarm for Sunday 10:30am and 12:00pm and Monday 12:00pm and 15:00pm.

FASHION SHOW: STOP! SUMMER SAYS SHOWTIME

Fashion is only fashion when you see it on the street, or so said Coco Chanel, and it was probably never so true as it is now given the popularity and influence of street fashion photography, especially during fashion weeks. The fashion show taking place five times per day in the Connecting Hall is based on the busy Shibuya Crossing in Tokyo’s fashion district. Stylist Pascal-Joel Weber brings the Spring-Summer 2017 street trends to life with real skaters such as Street Rats, techies on Segways as Future Punks, Retro Nerds with racing bikes, and break dancers such as Eurethnics.
