Outdoor specialist Mountain Warehouse has teamed up with Steve Backshall, the TV explorer and adventurer, to create a new range of outdoor clothing for children.

Launching later this month, the collaboration will feature two limited edition collections this year for children aged 5 to 13, and aims to “encourage children to get out and enjoy the great outdoors”, the outdoor clothing retailer said.

The affordable 23-piece collection will debut for spring/summer and will include items such as T-shirts, jackets, shorts, walking boots, backpacks, and water bottles featuring prints of wild animals such as sharks, wolves, tree frogs and turtles.

Commenting on the collaboration, Backshall said: "I'm thrilled to have teamed up with Mountain Warehouse to create this new children's range and can't wait for the designs to hit the shelves. This collection can act as a real tool to get kids outside and active.”

The debut spring/summer collection will be followed up with an autumn/winter line that will include cold weather items such as waterproof jackets and boots.

Prices will range from 9.99 pounds for a water bottle to 69.99 pounds for a pair of boots.

According to Mountain Warehouse, children’s clothing makes up about 15 percent of the company’s sales, which reported half-year sales of 59.3 million pounds for the six months to the end of August 2015, up 24.8 percent from the previous year.

Mountain Warehouse founder and chief executive, Mark Neale, added: “We’re delighted to have partnered with Steve on this project. The products available are further evidence of our strategy to ‘weatherproofing’ the business so it is no longer dependent on cold, wet weather and, like all Mountain Warehouse products, the range is made to a high standard and is excellent value for money.”

Mountain Warehouse has 228 stores across the UK.
