Fashion specialty retailer Nordstrom has fired a sales associate in Portland after the employee posted controversial statements that suggested killing of police officers on his Facebook page.

"We don't tolerate violence, violent conversation or threats of any kind. What our former employee posted on his personal Facebook page doesn't in any way reflect our views as a company, and we apologize to anyone who was affected by these terrible comments," Nordstrom responded in its Facebook page.

Aaron Hodges, the terminated Nordstrom sales associate, has since deleted his Facebook and Twitter accounts, however, a screen shot of post can be found online that has created an uproar in the social media.

Responding to the recent police shootings on black people, Hodges, who is black, posted on Facebook: "Instead of slamming the police, I prefer a Kenny Fort approach. Every time an unarmed black man is killed, you kill a decorated white officer, on his doorstep in front of his family." (dpa-AFX)
