Nudie Jeans in Osaka

Following store launches in Stockholm, Oslo, Tokyo, Gothenburg, Sydney and Melbourne, denim label Nudie Jeans now opened the doors of its Osaka flagship store. The Japanese city has a strong denim tradition and is home to a large swathe of Japan’s world-renowned denim industry. A huge variety of cotton spinners, dyers, weavers and garment makers can be found in and around Osaka.

“Opening a store in what’s best described as the Mecca of the denim world is a real challenge. Osaka is the place that jeans fans all over the world look to for inspiration,” says Palle Stenberg, CEO of Nudie Jeans. Nudie Jeans have been on the Japanese market since 2003 and opened a flagship store in Tokyo in autumn 2007. The store in Osaka will pay homage to denim as a fabric and not only present the collection as a whole but also reflect the emotion and ideals behind the Nudie Jeans brand.

“It’s one thing to have a presence in the Japanese market for the sake of prestige, but staying here and succeeding is a totally different matter. The Japanese jeans market is really tough and there are lots of very sharp brands. You’ve got to have commitment to succeed,” says Palle Stenberg.
