In an effort to push the French fashion industry further towards sustainability, Parisian mayor Anne Hidalgo is supporting a new project to support eco-friendly fashion initiatives.
Called Paris Good Fashion, the project outlines a five-year plan to build an open community for fashion professionals, entrepreneurs, designers and experts to work together to build a path to establishing Paris as a sustainable fashion capital.
Paris Good Fashion will focus on creating a circular economy, improving sourcing and traceability and making distribution, energy and communication more sustainable.
A more comprehensive project outline will be unveiled during an event in June, along with campaigns promoting fashion recycling and conferences surrounding sustainable discussions.
The project is set to end in 2024, the year the Olympic Games will be held in Paris.
French officials support sustainable fashion initiative
The project was introduced earlier this week at the Institut Français de la Mode. Frédéric Hocquard, deputy to the mayor in charge of cultural diversity and nightlife and deputy in charge of social economy and solidarity Antoinette Guhl introduced the initiative alongside former fashion journalist Isabelle Lefort.
“It’s our task to invent a new future for fashion,” Guhl told WWD. “Our role is to encourage creation while fighting against climate change, to continue production in France while protecting natural resources and to develop our industry while looking out for our artisans.”
Other supporters include the Paris administration, Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, creative platform Eyes on Talent, LVMH and the Galeries Lafayette.
